My Final Step.

The past few weeks have been very invigorating and exciting as I have started the final step of my project which is organizing and analyzing my cricket statistics from the past few seasons into spreadsheets in order to better understand my game.

I have been able to discover both strengths and weakness whilst interpreting the data into spreadsheets, some of my strengths include being able to quickly and efficiently enter my data, interpret the data into totals, averages etc. A specific example of this would be totaling the runs I scored in a specific season and working out my average according to the number of times I went out. The reason for this strength is that I spent numerous hours learning and developing my understanding of spreadsheets.

Whilst there were many strengths, I did encounter adversities such as not understanding why my totals were not accurate in relation to the data I was entering, for example when using the COUNTIF formula you can not leave a space after the word that is being counted because if you do this will result in the word will not being counted. I did come across this problem on multiple occasions, thus being an adversity. The reason for this adversity was that I had not come across the COUNTIF formula until I started entering my data thus I had a lack of knowledge with this formula. The problem I came across can be seen in the digital artifact below. As you can see there are 11 outs but only 9 are counted, this is because there is a space after two of the outs within that column.

I have also come across confusions and inquiries over the last few weeks. After I had finished entering my data I wanted to further analyze my statistics and so I wanted to make use of graphs, tables etc. with which I was familiar but did not have a lot of background knowledge. Under the guidance of Mr. Shappell I was able to better understand this way of interpreting my data and I will be carrying on with this part of my project. The reason for this confusion was that I was not sure exactly how I was going to further interpret the data, until I came across this method and thus I did not fully understand it.

Fortunately I was successful in many areas, I was able to achieve many of the goals I set myself at the beginning of the project such as being able interpret the data within a certain period of time. I wanted to be able to have entered all of my data before the third blog which I was able to achieve. I set this goal because I know that within the business world there are time restrictions when interpreting and creating a sufficient spreadsheet, thus preparing me for future work. One of my goals can be seen in the digital artifact below which shows the data I entered and interpreted before the third blog.

It is evident that the past few weeks have been very successful, but I know that there is always ways to improve such as including more complex interpretations of the data for example using pie charts, bar graphs and other sophisticated techniques. All of which will assist in my end goal which is to become a proficient spreadsheet user as well as being able to better understand my cricket game. Another way in which I can improve is making sure that I better understand all the formulas and functions so that I can avoid coming across a problem such as the one with the COUNTIF formula again. The way in which I could do this is to gain an in-depth knowledge about the different formulas and functions, which will therefore assist in obtaining a greater understanding.
