My first journey complete!
The mid-term has brought about many exciting challenges including the completion of my initial Spreadsheet project and my growth in becoming a proficient Spreadsheet user. I have grown in becoming a resilient, persistent, and adaptable achiever as well as an innovative problem solver all of which were my part of my original learner outcomes.
I can proudly say that I have mastered many strengths and overcome many weaknesses in the final step of my project as well throughout the course of the project. In the final step of my project some of my strengths were identifying efficient graphs to interpret the data. A specific example of this was choosing a pie chart instead of a bar graph to identify the number of times I went out in comparison to the numbers of times I did not go out in a season and overall over the past 5 seasons. The reason for this strength is because of my learning experience and understanding which graphs will best depict the statistic in an organized and easy way. This is clear in the digital artifact below. The digital artifact shows the pie chart for the overall statistic over the past 4 seasons as well as my most recent season.
I have faced many adversities throughout my project such as not understanding why the data wasn't being interpreted for graphs when they were in the same column. For example when I was trying to insert the totals of catches and stumpings into a pie chart they wouldn't be counted, this happened because a Spreadsheet does not interpret the totals when they are in the same column one under the other but only if they are in rows next to one another. I forgot about this rule and it occurred again thus making it one of my adversities. The reason for this adversity was that I did not understand graphs until I entered the final phase of my project, but with the help of Mr. Shappell and a few videos I gained a better grasp of graphs. The adversity can clearly be seen below, the data that was initially entered is one under the other and the improved data is next to one another.
I have faced confusions and inquiries since I started the final step of my project. One of my inquiries was that once I had started graphing which I initially did not know about, I was confused about the finer details of graphing such as headings and colors of graphs. I was also confused about what exactly I should interpret and what would make most sense. For example with my batting statistics I was not sure how should I enter the data into an overall graph. With the guidance of Mr. Shappell and the knowledge I have, I then realized that it would make most sense to do a graph with the averages of all 4 seasons. The reason for this confusion was that I had never worked with graphs in Spreadsheets before and therefore lacked experience with these graphs.
I am extremely happy and proud of my success over the last two months with regard to this project as well as in the final part of my project. My successes include being able to accurately and proficiently record my data into graphs to make better sense of my game, season by season and overall. This was very important as one of my goals was to gain a better understanding of my cricket game and by making use of graphs, I was able to do so.
It is clear that I can say I have become a proficient Spreadsheet user throughout the course of this project. Although I am finished my project there is always ways to improve in my own time and I will always carry this skill I have developed with regards to Spreadsheet development. A way I can improve on my strengths is that I could further interpret the data into multiple graphs as well as use other interpretation techniques. An example would be to put the total number of runs scored for each season into double bar graphs and line graphs. I would be able to achieve this by researching more about Spreadsheet and I will therefore consistently be learning more I can improve with future learning by paying more attention to the finer details of Spreadsheets and I will therefore come across less weaknesses. For example not repeating my mistakes with the columns and not repeating past mistakes such as leaving spaces after words I want included. I will be able to achieve this by learning from past experience as well in-depth research of Spreadsheets. I will be starting a new project in the near future and am yet to decide what I will be doing, I am very interested in Arduino's, and I may go down that route. I am hoping to achieve as much success as I was able to do with my new project no matter what it is!
