Bringing dispersion and sports together!

Throughout the course of the past weeks I have been very productive by tackling my new project head on! My new project is learning how to efficiently use Photoshop in order to be able modify people’s bodies using the dispersion effect whilst playing sport. I am definitely working toward becoming a creative and critical thinker as well as a resilient, persistent, and adaptable achiever.

As I start this new project I have encountered many strengths such as proficiently learning the basics and foundations of Photoshop. A specific example as to where I was able to learn efficiently was learning that by clicking ctrl.+J you can create a second layer of a photo. A second strength was understanding that using the Lasso Tool lets you select the image or part of the image by tracing around it and from there one can do what is needed. A third strength of mine was being able to quickly find efficient and effective tutorials that will teach me exactly how to create the dispersion effect. The reason for these strengths was because I was able to us the resources around me such as consulting Daniel Sulimani as he has great knowledge about the details of Photoshop. One of the tutorials that I used can be found below:

I also came across adversities in this very exciting project such as trying to create a modified image using the dispersion effect which unfortunately did not turn out as planned. I tried following a tutorial in order to create this image but due to a lack of understanding and experience I was not able to complete it correctly. The reason for this challenge was that I did not download the correct brushes needed prior to starting the project which also comes down to a lack of experience. I was able to learn from my mistake and I made sure that in the future, I will check the requirements in order to create the modified image before I start.

I definitely came across confusions and inquiries such as not understanding the functions of different tools that are needed in creating the modified image. A specific example of this was that I did not now  what the Forward Warp Tool did and so I asked my classmates and researched it and after watching the tutorial above, I realized that it stretches parts of the image that are going to be dispersed into millions of little particles. The reason for this inquiry was due to my lack of understanding, knowledge and experience with Photoshop as I have no previous experience with it and therefore resulting in this confusion.

Although I came across hurdles and inquiries I was also successful such as competently completing my project proposal which gives me a kick-start to the project, I now have a set goal and direction! I also have a specific purpose to this project which is to combine both sports and photography. Within my project proposal I believe I was most successful in creating a unique overview that truly explains what I want to achieve. The overview of my project proposal can be seen below:

I have just started this new project and I am very eager to learn and go beyond my comfort zone. I know that I can improve in many aspects such as being able to understand the intricacies and details and not just the basics of Photoshop. An example would be to understand why we make one layer visible when another layer is not as well as understanding why we use many different layers. All of which will assist in current learning as well if I choose to do something different with Photoshop in the future. Another way in which I can improve is to better understand the different functions of the brushes so that I do not make the same mistake as I originally did. An example would be to understand which brushes work best for different images as well as understanding which brushes work best for different effects. These improvements will all assist in becoming a skillful Photoshop user.
