ZOOZ!
The concept of this ancient israel game (זוז, zooz, meaning “move”) is based loosely on the exciting and invigorating game known as Twister. Before his death, Solomon said to David : “If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.” You are one of the descendants of a long chain of kings including the one and only, King David, but sadly you lost control of your kingdom of Israel, and only 70 years ago you gained it back. New sites were added to the land of Israel which means that you are not equipped with great understanding of the land. You must pioneer through the country just like the military troops did when they first came to Israel, which back then was the land that was “given” to the Jews. You will gain knowledge and a better understanding about the holy land.
The game is played by getting into pairs, there can be either two or three groups playing at once. The game consists of of four rounds with each player being on the mat for two rounds. There are two spinning boards, one with the different sites across Israel and the other board is for which site you need to put you hand or foot on. According to what you spin, you will have to put either one of hands or feet on a site but before you put either your foot or hand down, you must read one of the facts aloud to the group and if you fall while doing this, you are out! The team that wins the most rounds wins the game. If the there is draw at the end of the 4 rounds, you play a sudden death round to see who wins. The requirements include: the mat, two spinning boards and detailed instructions. You must also be barefoot to play the game.
I came up with the idea as throughout the course of Israel’s existence there have many been many historical events across the land all of which have historical sites that are visited by many people annually. Many of these sites have been very important in the survival and gaining of Israel by the Jewish people. In order to educate everyone on these historically significant sites, I wanted to create a game that physically engages you in the facts about the sites making it fun as well as educational and thus I came up with a game that is based loosely on "Twister."
We made a few changes throughout the course of testing and drafting such as developing an exciting story behind the game, modifying the instructions to make them more clear and user friendly, we added geographical sites to our site and our biggest change was adding an extra 6 sites to the mat as well as putting two facts per site where originally there were only 12 sites with one fact each but after the change there were 18 sites with 2 facts each. I believe our game was extremely successful and engaging, many people played it and thoroughly enjoyed it. I do not think it would be necessary to make any major improvements to the game, except for very small details such as getting the facts printed directly on the sites.
