Community Service 2017-2018 First Semester
Over the first semester, I have committed to numerous projects of community service such as Save A Child's Heart, Food for Families, Make a Wish, Tassel and The Schoolhouse.
Over this semester, Make a Wish entailed brainstorming ideas and possible events in order to fund raise and will be further implemented in the second semester. Tassel has just begun and we have recently started practicing and learning the skills required to give feedback to the students we will be grading. The Schoolhouse is a program that myself and Joy Konfino will be heading and whilst we get the program up and running this year, we have started to conceptualise ideas with regards to fund raising and they will be put in place in the second semester.
Save a Child's Heart and Food for Families have been very humbling experiences. Save a Child's Heart is project that spans over the year and occurs at the SACH centre in Holon. We split up into two groups prior to visiting the centre and were given times as to when we will volunteer and be able play with the children there. I spent a few hours volunteering and playing with children from Africa who are ill and are getting treatment in Israel. By spending time with the children, we stimulated the children by playing with the, reading to them, teaching them and physically interacting with them. This makes a positive impact because these children come from underprivileged backgrounds where they lack this type of interaction. I grew in may ways from participating in this service, it enhanced a profound sense of gratitude for my circumstances and for being healthy and physically able bodied. It was an incredible experience to give back and to pay it forward.
Here are some photos from the day I volunteered at SACH:
Food for Families is also a year long project that entails bringing food and goods for families who cannot afford it and are in need of supplies. This project has been in place since the very beginning of the school year and happens once a week where we are assigned specific food that we need to bring. It doesn't take up much time to contribute to others as whilst I am shopping, I buy my food which is 10 fruits in season and put into the basket in the cafeteria every Friday. This has made a meaningful impact on others as many of these families cannot afford basic food supplies and so contributing just 10 fruits can make a huge difference to families in need. I grew in ways such as understanding that a small deed can go a long way and that everyone can contribute and have a meaningful impact on others and the community. I am really looking forward to the service in the upcoming semester and will do all that I can to positively impact many people.
